ECOLO Investigates … Agriculture Problem A large slaughterhouse of livestock, located right in the heart of a major downtown city, is surrounded by residents in both middle and upper income housing. The customer received numerous complaints, which increased overtime as the public, and politicians became less tolerant and more vocal. The facility was threatened with closure. Solution In 1982, Ecolo installed a multi-25 system with spray units in the animal holding area, the offal pickup area, and the exhaust area. Later on when the company added a wastewater treatment area, additional spray units were added there. Conclusion Neighbors and politicians were very pleased. Complaints eliminated and pressure for closure from neighborhood association ceased. |
