ECOLO Investigates        … Composting Problem As one of the EEC"s largest mushroom growers and composters, the Client was experiencing severe complaints from local residents whose properties are some 400 metres from the composting windrow shed.  Under pressure from the Environmental Health Officer to abate their nuisance, Ecolo was called in. Solution Four high performance spray nozzles were installed - one for each extract fan built into the gable-end of the windrow shed.  These are linked to an Ecolo Pump System.  Initially, the installation was programmed to run when the fans were running.  This was modified later by the addition of a wind direction control.  Whenever the direction is up-wind of the houses, the system switches on.  To date, the system has been in use for approximately twenty-one months. Conclusion The high level of malodors from the windrow shed have been neutralized.  The complaints from residents have ceased.
